2022 RACE BLACKSHEEP MTB CLUB RACE SERIES – Presented by Heartbeat Hot Sauce

It is less than a week until we kick off our 2022 Racing Season! And I’m here to tell you its going to be our best ever!  We already have an unprecedented number of Racing Memberships sold for this time of year (over 200 as of today!)  There is a lot of information to cover, so get comfy.

1. New presenting sponsor
As you probably guessed by the title, we have a presenting sponsor for our Series – Heartbeat Hot Sauce.  So get ready for a lot of mountain-bike-spiciness jokes and puns.  A big thanks goes out to Heartbeat for their support for the coming year.

2. 2022 Race Committee
I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce your hard-working 2022 Race Committee.  They are Eric Bailey (Race Director) Dave Valente, Tristin Radley-Hansen, Ben Urbanski, Steve Anderson, Katherine Morency, Dejan Sepa, and Keith Ailey.

3. Race Themes:
If you haven’t already done so, checkout the club calendar at https://www.blacksheepmtb.com/our-events/ .  Our approach this year to the series is to have race “themes” .  The Series consists of 8 races. In addition, we have the return of thee Race for the Cheese, the Ozzy 8 Relay, and of course the 40-Miner presented by Tbaytel.  Within the 8 races we have an XCC (short track) and an Enduro, and an Individual Start Time Trial.  The remaining 5 races are classic “XC” (cross-country) which will all be mass start by category and start at Kinsmen Park.  We think there is a little bit of something for everyone and we hope you enjoy the variety.

4. Everything is Ready:
One of the exciting initiatives this year was to have everything done before the season began.  So all of the registrations are open now and lots of the course maps are ready as well.
Registration is open for all events https://www.webscorer.com/blacksheep?pg=register
Currently available courses are available here https://www.trailforks.com/region/trowbridge-forest-5103/events/

5. Sign up and Race Day procedure:
Registration deadlines may be different for each event, depending on the organizers requirements for each race format.  Please read the web posting for each individual event carefully for cut-off times and other important information.  PLEASE make EVERY EFFORT to register before the deadline.  On-site, day-of registration MAY BE POSSIBLE and will come with an additional $10 fee.  No guarantees can be made that you will be able to register on the day of the event.

6. Membership and Fee structure:
For everyone that has purchased a Racing membership, all events are free of charge (except for special events like the Ozzy 8 and 40-Miner which will have an additional fee, but will be discounted for members).  “General” BlackSheep members can do up to 2 races for $10 each, but after that must upgrade to a Racing Membership

7. New Sport Sub-category:
We have split our largest category into 2 sub-categories.  SPORT will now have an Under-18 as well as an 18+ category.  The Sport category is designed to accommodate young racers as well as adults and we felt it is important to recognize these 2 different groups by giving them a separate start time as well as a stand-alone podium and results.

8. Plates and timing chips:
After a successful trial run at last years’ 40-Miner, we will have chip-timing for all BlackSheep events in 2022.  When you register for a Racing membership or an event, you will be issued a number plate FOR THE SEASON.  On this plate will be a timing chip.  So it is critical that you do not lose this plate and it stays on your bike for each event.  They are custom plates for the 2022 season and you will get to keep them as a memento once the season is complete.

That’s all for now.
See you next Wednesday!
Please reach out to racing@blacksheepmtb.com if you have any questions.
