We are just about to the worst week of spring melt for trail damage. Right now the trails are a mixture of ice and mud, neither are great for riding, the trails, or your bike.

Unfortunately this year with the increased traffic and interest in getting outside we have already seen more trail damage than usual.

Please be considerate of where you choose to ride, walk, and run. Trails this time of year are very prone to damage. This is especially important this year as at this time we are unable to do maintenance due to current restrictions.

If you’re out on the trails over the next few weeks here are some things you can do to mitigate trail damage.

Turn around – If your tire or foot is sinking and leaving ruts or footprint, please turn around and try a different trail. The trail’s not going to get better further up.

Ride through puddles – Help prevent trail widening by riding through the puddles. If you’re up for a challenge try wheeling threw or jumping over the puddle. Riding around muddy spots quickly widens the trail and makes these spots hard to repair.

Try something new – There are over 20km of doubletrack trails to explore in Trowbridge Forest and endless gravel roads just outside of town. Give these a try when conditions are too wet & muddy on the singletrack.

Ride early – On warmer days ride in the morning when the ground is still hard.

We appreciate your patience and support. We can’t wait to get back to riding and building with you soon!
