What's new with the 2009 Membership
Model?
Based on feedback and in an effort to provide
better value, we've made a number of changes to our membership
fee model for 2009. These include:
- Reduced prices for all-inclusive memberships (rates now
include all fees, including Festivals).
- Increased discounts for early registrants.
- Created an "Other Student" category for those attending high
school, college and university.
- Included a discounted "Couple Rate".
- Eliminated "Try-A-Race" and restructured the "Pay-As-You-Go"
option. The $25 fee covers your first event fee and your OCA
insurance. Additional races/events are $10 each. Under the new
model, 2 events cost $35 ($50 to $60 in 2008) and 3 events cost
$45 ($55 to $65 in 2008). Hint: If you plan on participating in
several events, consider one of the attractively priced
all-inclusive options.
We have tested the new fee model using our 2008 membership
roster and participation rates. Although it is difficult to
predict every scenario, our results show that 2009 membership
and race fees will be lower for 90% of members. The increases
for the few who will experience them are minimal.
How do I join?
At the moment, the only way to register
with the Black Sheep is . . . "good ol' paper". Read through
our easy "3-Step Guide to Cycling Happiness for details:
Step 1: Fill out a
2009 Membersheep Form (1
per couple/family/individual) and
2009 OCA
Waiver Form (1 per member).
The forms require Adobe Reader. Get it

Note that members of OCA-affiliated clubs or those with a
UCI license qualify for a $25 discount on membership fees.
Details are provided on the 2009 Membersheep Form.
Step 2: Pay!! It costs very little money to
become a member and ride/race with the Black Sheep. To give
you an idea, for 2009 it costs a maximum of $100 for an
all-inclusive membership and with it, you can participate in
19 races/fun events, and join 16 pre-rides/group rides, all
the while being covered by a great insurance policy, keeping
fit, meeting some cool peeps and having fun. The chances of
you winning some great draw prizes is pretty darned good.
Just ask any Black Sheeper.
Step 3: Submit your forms. Several
convenient options are outlined on the 2009 Membersheep Form but the simplest is to bring them to the next event.
How do I volunteer?
Contrary to popular belief, the
Black Sheep Cycling Club wasn't built on rock and roll. It was built by volunteers. Want to help? Good news - you can! Cutting trails, timing, artsy stuff, whatever you like.
Here's a form. Fill it out. "Ewe" can also contact the volunteer co-ordinator, he's a "woolly" nice guy.
