DH Overall Season Points / Other Season Awards

Jun 29 09 - Overall Season Points are now posted: Click on the link above to see the points you have and the qualifying information. These will be updated on the weekend after a race as the priority is on getting the race results up ASAP. Ride early, ride hard...don't let your rival get a jump in the points. Please note that we are trying out the two Super D races and they are not a series this year, maybe in 2010, depending on popularity.

Jun 17 09 - Super-D1 at Mt. McKay: Another warm and sunny evening at Mt. McKay? Must be making up for last years rainy days. The Lemans start caused some griping, perhaps because we ride since we are not runners...or maybe we are dancers? Mike D. added this: "To me, the highlight of the Super-D race was witnessing Chris Lacosse doing his best impression of a ballet dancer by throwing in a perfect pirouette while dashing to his bike. Trust me, you had to see it to believe it!" Who knew? Uh-oh, hope Mike's not going to add style points to Super-D#2! A 100 metre "hike for the bike" does not have the same ring though as "dash for the cash," like at Mud N' Mayhem. 30 riders dared to try this new race, who would dominate, the DH or XC specialists? Check it out for yourself.

Jun 17 09 - Super-D1 at Mt. McKay: Here are the Pre-Race Factoids.

Jun 3 09 - DH1 at Mt. McKay, sponsored by Petrie's Cycle & Sports: The cowbell was ringing, the sun was shining and it was time for a little DH at McKay...it just doesn't get much better than this, does it? Oh yeah, here's the results. We also clarified some trail names too, the tough section off of the berms was cut by Brian Coutts and was named for Allison Carroll-Coutts, so it is called Allie Way. When the trail was cut for the finish line Dave Nicholson clipped a snake in the grass with the grass trimmer, hence Snake Run. Now you know.

Jun 3 09 - DH1 at Mt. McKay: Please fill out your membership form and waiver ahead of time and arrive early, or else you will be waiting in line and not pre-riding. How much is it? The all-inclusive membership is the best deal, but if you are just doing DH and want to do the "pay-as-you-go," $25 is needed at your first race and $10 at each race after that. For this race, memberships 5:30pm, race registration 6:00pm and races start at 7:00pm. Meet at the parking lot off of Mountain Road.
If you haven't tried DH before, we will have the Lambateur category doing the berms, which can be done with an XC bike and standard helmet. Sport will be a basic course and Advanced will have some extra sections. As always, the exact course layout will be determined by the DH co-ordinator and weather/course conditions on the day of the race. Each category will be the best time of 2 runs on one course.
If are planning on being there and not racing, we will need race marshalls, starters and extra hands to move flagging tape for the different courses. Contact the volunteer co-ordinator for more info. Your assistance is appreciated.
Don't forget to charge the batteries in your cameras to catch all of the action, we can post your photos in our gallery or provide a link to your photo galleries!

May 18 09 - Trail Maintenance at Mt. McKay: A small but dedicated group of volunteers (click here for list) converged on Mt. McKay today to give it some much needed TLC. There was much but we accomplished most of it including:

- First and foremost, cleaned up all the garbage left on site (honestly, some people have no respect for the property of others!).
-
Reconstructed the ladder bridge to rock drop (now very solid, better angle & wider slats. Photo here).
- Prepared a new section of trail just after the drop in off the fireroad (need to see it but includes several rolls, a rock drop, and bermed corner . . . definitely more interesting and challenging).
- Repairing the bottom of DH 2 (fixed water damage and changed contour at bottom necessitated by unauthorized work completed last season by some who thought a high speed drop aiming you directly at trees was a good idea . . . appreciate the effort guys but next time, ask before you make such changes. At any rate, we couldn't reverse the damage so instead put in some banks and berms to help with direction change coming off the drop. Still pretty wet and soupy but should be fine once it dries and packs).
- Repairing the road at the base (finish for the DH courses).

Although several people were involved, special thanks to the Lacosses (Chris, Karen, Jacob and Kyle) and especially to Chris (who spent his day off last week working on the trails) for the planning and hard work that is going into this year's DH courses. Can't wait for the season opener on Jun 3 09!

May 16 09 - UCI World Cup DH Round 3 from Andorra: If you've never watched a pro race, you don't know what you're missing! See it live and FREE on Sunday May 17 at 7:15 am. Click here
